Before COVID-19, social distance, and masking were common terms, Sarah Michelle Gellar was disinfecting her own airplane seat with wipes, she proudly tells Shape over Zoom. So it comes as no surprise that she partnered with Rite Aid to spread the word about getting the flu shot this year before flu season.
“Nobody desires the flu. Nothing in the conversation is difficult, “she claims. Gellar, who suffers from asthma, is aware that not everyone is able to fend off illnesses in the same way, and she adds that getting vaccinated benefits not just you but also those around you.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress uses diet to feel her best in addition to getting vaccinated against the virus. She asserts that since nutrition impacts how we spend our energy, how we sleep, and other factors, it essentially forms the basis for everything related to “being well.” She continues by stating that her family, including her husband Freddie Prinze Jr., is made up of “huge foodies” and that they cultivate a lot of their own vegetables at home.
Gellar’s healthy lifestyle obviously includes exercise, but she approaches it differently now than she did when she was battling vampires. “I believe it has turned more emotional. Exercise used to be viewed somewhat as something I had to do because it was part of my profession. However, I believe there is also an emotional component, since it helps me to focus “says the mother of two. She continues, saying this approach makes exercise “less of a chore,” adding, “When I work out for an hour, I can sort of let everything else go, and I just focus on whatever the action is and making sure it’s proper.”
She explains that she presently commutes back and forth from Los Angeles to Atlanta, where she is filming the new Paramount series Wolf Pack, a spin-off of Teen Wolf, and that this makes incorporating movement into her routine “difficult.” You may find her at The Studio (MDR) or Pilates Platinum when she’s in Los Angeles. The Megaformer, a spring-loaded resistance apparatus akin to the traditional Pilates reformer, is used at both Pilates studios. According to Gellar, “It’s some of the hardest strength and core work I’ve ever done.”
She uses subscription services while she’s working in an Atlanta hotel instead of her typical studios or the canyon trails near her house where she likes to hike with her family and dogs. Yes, I’m biased, but I happen to adore and frequently use Amanda Kloots’ subscription service , admits Gellar. When the yoga room at her hotel is open, she uses it to project one of Kloot’s workouts on the wall. I really appreciate how I feel like I’m in one of her classes.
If you’re wondering whether she and Prinze work out together, she typically lets him work out on his own in the gym, unless they’re going on a hike with the family. The actress laughs as she explains, “He’s pretty big into boxing, whereas, to be honest, I’m, like, far too lazy.” I would love to, but I’m simply too lazy.
Gellar considers her skin-care regimen to include her healthy eating and exercise routines. She asserts, “I think that’s a significant component.” “I take good care of my skin, however it’s not necessarily because of this particular product. But I need to make sure that I cleanse my face every night, “She clarifies. She continues, “And it’s not just wash it and go to bed. The same way you would treat the rest of your body, I wash, rub, prepare, and give it minerals.
Gellar enjoys taking a bath and curling up with a book to relax. Reminding herself that she needs to take care of herself occasionally in order to take care of others is what she defines as self care, according to her. I’ve been travelling a lot, and you should always put your mask on before putting your child’s on, she continues. “It also seems counterintuitive because as a parent, all you want to do is look after your child, but the truth is, if I don’t look after myself, I can’t look after you. That, in my opinion, is self care.”
