The “Hack” Hailey Bieber Uses to Get Glowy Skin

Hailey Bieber, who popularized the phrase “glazed donut skin,” is now disclosing the secret to getting her recognizable shine. The 25-year-old model describes the easy “trick” she employs to achieve that dewy appearance in a new TikTok video.

In the caption of her post , Bieber states, “I truly adore this @rhode hack…I utilize this approach anytime I do foundation.” She begins the video by dousing a few drops of liquid foundation with Rhode Peptide Glazing Fluid, a product from her own skin care line. Before a makeup artist appears and applies the mixture to her skin, she softly blends the ingredients using a cosmetics brush.

ICYMI, earlier this year, Bieber introduced her skin-care line, Rhode, and the Peptide Glazing Fluid, a gel serum described as “the dewy hydration layer,” immediately rose to the top of the bestseller list (there is presently a waitlist for order it online ). The main constituents of the product, which brighten, plump, moisturize, and protect the skin barrier, are niacinamide (a type of vitamin B3), peptides, hyaluronic acid, and marula oil.

According to Kavita Mariwalla, M.D. , a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Mariwalla Dermatology , using a daily face serum is essential to maintaining healthy skin. This goes double for products containing potent antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin B3. Antioxidants can slow down the aging process and help the skin look younger when applied topically, according to the expert.

Serums are typically applied prior to makeup, which has the advantage of facilitating the smooth application of foundation. But according to beauty expert Amrita Mehta , combining serum with a foundation might be a terrific approach to get a luminous makeup look. “The skin care in the mixture will really assist bring a sheen to the skin,” says the manufacturer of the product. “The serum will gently sheer down the composition, letting skin peek through a bit more.”

“If you’re wondering how to enhance your routine, it all starts with “cocktailing” your foundation for a genuinely tailored and enhanced experience that is easy and only adds 10 seconds to a routine,” says popular makeup artist Justin Cornelius, also known by his Instagram handle @jh0llyw00d .

But Mehta cautions that when selecting a serum to combine with your foundation, make sure the bases of both products work well together. Oil and water don’t mix, so if you’re choosing an oil-based serum, choose an oil formula rather than a water-based foundation. As a result, you’ll pair water and oil together. According to Mehta, this trick undoubtedly works better with foundations that are simple to combine. In other words, avoid mixing powder foundation formulas with skin-care serums.

Christina Gallardo , a makeup artist and beauty expert on NBClx, issues a further caution: Combining products can result in coverage faults. “When it comes to wear and finish, foundations make a lot of promises, but they can only deliver on these if you maintain the integrity of the meticulously created product. Any type of skin care that is added can compromise the integrity of the foundation. While it’s not necessarily negative, your foundation might not perform as effectively as it could.”

Don’t worry if you lack confidence in your ability to mix your own skin care and cosmetics cocktail correctly. Gallardo notes that a lot of cosmetic businesses are developing makeup products with skin-care components already included. So, she explains, “we can get the best of both.” Gallardo suggests Kosas Revealer Skin-Improving Foundation and @rhode 0 to consumers looking for two-in-one cosmetics that contain components for skin care and foundation.
