Canadian Health Digest - Womens Health - Stages of Menopause

In menopause, the ovaries of women stop functioning. This happens naturally or when a doctor removes the ovaries. During this period, the ovaries eventually fail to produce one egg every month and the reproductive system of women eventually cease to function.

About Menopause

Menopause has 5 stages: the premature stage, the premenopause stage, followed by the perimenopause stage, the main menopause stage, and finally, the postmenopause stage.

Early menopause happens at around the 40th year of life, while late menopause is experienced at around the 55th. In premenopause, a woman's periods become less frequent, while in postmenopause, the reproductive systems of women are already inactive.

Effects of Menopause

Menopause is among the normal parts of the aging process of women. Menopause symptoms include hot flashes at certain times, unusual vaginal bleeding, changes in behavior and emotions, sudden changes in women's cognitive processes, and a wide amount of other visible physical changes. During menopause, women might end up with decreased enthusiasm when it comes to having sex.

When women experience menopause, she no longer experiences monthly menstruation. Thus, a female's activity to reproduce is no longer present. Often, a woman experiences menopause when middle-aged, and the usual age in which women experience menopause is around 51.

Hormonal Treatment

Diseases such as osteoporosis are often linked with the natural process of menopause since women's bones tend to weaken after undergoing menopause. This might be because of the hormonal and various other changes. Often, to prevent complications linked to menopause such as osteoporosis, women undergo an alteration of their hormones through hormone therapy.
