> Tylenol Dangers
Tylenol (Acetaminophen), when taken as directed on
the label is considered safe for adults and
children. However, there are a few risks of taking
Tylenol that you may or may not know.
According to recent studies, overdosing on Tylenol
is the number one cause of acute liver failure today
and hospitals see hundreds of people each year who
have unwittingly overdosed on Tylenol (particularly
infants and young children).
Tylenol should never be taken in combination with
any other pain medication unless your doctor has
specifically recommended the combination. The reason
behind this is that most people are unaware that
prescription medications often contain
Acetaminophen. Being unaware of this, they take a
prescription medication containing Acetaminophen,
along with Tylenol or another over the counter drug
which can cause an overdose.
Children are at the highest risk for Tylenol dangers
because when children are sick, their unaware
parents may give them children’s Tylenol in addition
to a sore throat medication or another medicine that
may also contain acetaminophen. The mixture of these
does especially when taken several times a day can
be extremely damaging to their liver.
Adults are also at risk of getting liver damage
after taking Tylenol too often. If you take
medication every 4 hours, more than one day or two
days a week you should check with your doctor to see
if you are in danger of developing a liver problem.
If you feel that you’ve overdosed on Tylenol first
visit your doctor or emergency room immediately and
here is a lost of the overdose symptoms (symptoms
may be delayed for 12 hours or longer) – diarrhea,
upset stomach, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting,
irritability, abdominal pain or even a coma.
