Canadian Health Digest - Mens Health - Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence, is the inability of a man to sustain or keep a sufficient erection during sexual intercourse. It is not just a single case but a group of disorders that is common among old men, affecting not only their lives but their partners' as well. Most commonly, men whose age is 65 years old and above are the ones afflicted with this kind of health problem. Nevertheless, all men are susceptible to the disease due to several reasons.

Although ED is normal among men who are getting older, still it is highly advised that they consult a doctor if they are experiencing difficulty in erection. It could be a symptom or a result of more serious health problems that require immediate medical attention. Sometimes, erectile dysfunction is caused by the clogged blood vessels or damaged nerves, which are commonly impaired due to diabetes, accidents, and injuries. Likewise, psychological problems and negative feelings such as anxiety stress, hostility, and resentment can cause erectile dysfunctions. To have a greater chance for recovery, it is best to promptly seek a medical advice at the onset of the symptoms.

Basically, inability to get or maintain a complete erection is a sign of having a dysfunctional sex organ. At first, it may only happen occasionally, then it will get more frequent and will eventually result in permanent incapacity to attain erection.

At present, there are many available treatments for patients with erectile dysfunction. These recommended treatments, however, may vary depending on the cause of the disorder. The basic ones among the possible cure are taking pills, exercising regularly, maintaining a good weight, and avoiding alcoholic beverages.
