> Herbs for Losing Weight
Despite all the mixed messages surround herbal
supplements and their ‘effects’ on weight loss, it’s
a proven fact that these supplements can be strong
allies in your fight against fat. However, this
isn’t to say that you can pop a couple ‘fat burners’
and grab a bag of popcorn and sit down and watch Dr.
Phil. If you’re serious about succeeding and
reaching your weight loss goals you’ll still need to
eat a healthy diet and exercise. By first overcoming
obstacles such as ‘being too tired to exercise’, and
‘emotional eating’, it can help make the whole
process easier.
Most fitness and nutrition experts don’t recommend
herbs, however there is a sincere argument in their
favor: they are helping many people cope with
dieting and are losing business to these supplement
companies.
In contrast, dietary supplements and weight-loss
aids aren’t subject to the same rigorous standards
as are prescription drugs or medications, thus they
can be sold and marketed with limited proof of
effectiveness and safety. Vendors that sell and
market supplements can make claims and
interpretations of studies on their own accord
without authorization from the FDA, however if the
FDA feels that these products are dangerous it will
be pulled off the market.
For you, as a consumer it can be tough to know what
you’re getting. Hundreds of weight-loss pills
contain a somewhat nasty cocktail of ingredients
with more than 20 herbs, minerals, vitamins and
botanicals or other fillers such as caffeine and
laxatives. How these ingredients interact with one
another varies largely on your body composition etc.
As a general rule of thumb, you should consult your
physician before undergoing any form of ‘drastic
weight loss’ especially if you’re taking other
medications.
