Marijuana is probably one of the most commonly used prohibited drug in the world today. It was derived from the hemp plant Cannabis sativa L. It goes by a lot of names. These are ganja, Maryjane, weed, grass, pot, gangster, boom, roach, chronic, reefer, dope, Thai sticks, sinsemilla, joint and blunt. There are many ways to abuse marijuana. It may be smoked like a cigar, drank like a tea, inhaled like a perfume or eaten like a leafy vegetable. Marijuana is very addictive that it becomes the most important part of an abuser's life.

Marijuana has many harmful effects to the body. Physically, a person who abuses marijuana usually appears as a bloodshot eyed lanky man who looks like he hasn't slept for days. He also has a dry mouth and a dry throat. He also experiences difficulty in walking. Marijuana abusers look rather dangerous and aggressive than most men. Mentally, it affects a person's memory and learning capabilities. A person abusing marijuana usually experience a sort of short-term memory loss, struggle with listening, problem with decision-making, difficulty in comprehension and trouble with concentration. This is probably because marijuana also provides the person with hallucinations and paranoia to keep him preoccupied with himself. It also increases the heart rate and the risk of heart attacks. Marijuana also causes coughing, throat problems and other respiratory complications. It is also said to promote lung cancer. It also causes impairments in the immune system which results to disease vulnerability.
