The skin is not only the largest organ of the body, but it is also an organ that is immediately noticeable in a person. As such, it is only natural for people to take care of their skin and do what they can to make it healthy. But imagine the disaster of having your once clear and velvety smooth childhood skin be dotted with bumps, some of which have white pus emerging on the top. Not a pretty picture, right? But the truth is that there are a lot of people, mostly in their teens, suffering from the attack of these fiery bumps.

This condition which is characterized by pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads on the skin is called acne. It is caused by the abnormal functioning of the skin's glands due to follicle blockage. The reason why acne is prevalent in people in their teenage years is because oil glands secrete more oil or sebum during the adolescent years. This causes sebum buildup that in turn increases the possibility of infection. Once the glands become infected, the body retaliates with the end product being the zits.

There are two kinds of methods for curing acne: home acne treatment and treatment through prescription medicines. Home acne treatments include washing the skin twice daily with a gentle soap or cleanser and applying benzoyl peroxide to the affected skin to avoid pore blockage. Treatment of acne through prescribed medicines, meanwhile, is a method of curing acne wherein a drug, either oral or topical, is given by a dermatologist to a patient.
