> Choosing a Family Doctor
Family physicians or ‘family doctor’s’ are doctors
who look after your entire family. Family Doctors
can create a caring relationship with your family
and they really get to know their patients. They
listen and they help them make the right health care
decisions.
Family Doctors are trusted and trained in all areas
of medicine. They have the ability to diagnose and
treat the full range of problems people bring to
them each and every day.
Family Physicians always know the latest and
greatest treatments and technologies. In fact, only
family physicians train for 3 years in real practice
settings, treating patients in the office, their
home, and at the hospital. Family Physicians are
required to re-certify more than any other medical
specialty.
When looking for a family doctor, talk with your
friends and family. Once you have the names of a few
doctors, why not call their offices to get more
information. Some vital questions that you should
ask are: what are your office hours, how many
doctors are in the practice, do you accept insurance
and what hospital does your doctor use.
Once you have found a doctor that suits you and your
family best, why not schedule an appointment so that
you can meet and talk with your doctor. When you
visit your family doctor the first time you should
make sure that you’re comfortable talking with your
doctor (you want to make sure you can come to
him/her about anything that’s troubling you), the
doctor answers all your questions, the doctor
explains things so that you fully understand and
that you’ve had enough time to ask all your
questions. If at any time you have any questions or
concerns feel free to ask your doctor because your
health and your family’s health rely on this.
