Canadian Health Digest - Family Health - Air Pollution

It is of no secret to us that air pollution causes global warming-- a serious issue that can wipe out the existence of animals such as polar bears-- and inconvenience to the human race. Though air pollution cannot be completely eliminated, you can do your own share in reducing it.

* Say no to fancy and fast sports cars. If you're planning on buying a car, choose a hybrid type of car instead. That would cut your car's carbon dioxide emission in half.

* Make hair sprays a thing of the past. Are you still using hair sprays to keep your hair strands in place? If you still do, stop now. Not only are they adding to air pollution, they can also do damage to your hair.

* Cut back on your cigarette consumption. By doing this, you'll be doing your lungs, as well as the environment, a big favor.

* Use a bike or walk instead of driving your car. If you're only be going a short distance, it's better to just use your bicycle or walk to where you're going. This way, you will also be giving your body the exercise it needs. If driving a bicycle won't do, just use mass transit whenever you can.

* Make your backyard a greener place and your front lawn look a lot nicer. How? Plant trees, shrubs, and flowers.

* Cut back on the usage of heaters or air conditioners. Keeping your heater 2 degrees colder in the winter and your air conditioner 2 degrees warmer than usual in the summer can make a big impact.

The earth is our home and we have to do our share in keeping it clean. If we all strive to reduce air pollution in our own way, the ripples of change we make will surely do us a world of good.
