For first-time parents, caring for a newborn child can be your most wonderful experience. However, it can also be nerve-wracking. A baby is very delicate, hence, caring for one means that you will have to be alert and extra careful. If you feel that you need help with regard to caring for your baby, then you can hire a baby nurse or just elicit help from relatives.
If you're not comfortable handling your newborn because he just seems so fragile, don't despair. Just remember to always provide support to your baby's head and neck. You should also take extra care not to shake your baby as well as make sure that he is fastened securely into the stroller, carrier, or car seat.
Babies like to be soothed, and close proximity to your baby can form an emotional bond. You can sing and read to him or just let soft music play in the background. Newborns can also be sensitive to light and sound so it might be good to draw in your curtains and talk in a soft voice when you're around your baby.
Since it's always best to breastfeed your baby until he reaches the age of 2, make sure that you are eating nutritious meals. Do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcoholic beverages because doing so may affect your baby.
Another thing that you have to do is to bathe your baby and make sure that his diaper is changed as soon as possible after wetting or pooping. Bathing your baby 3 or 4 times a week may be enough, as bathing a baby everyday can be drying to the skin. If you notice that your baby has rashes that won't go away, or if other problems are present, then don't hesitate to consult your doctor.
